About Course

The Graduate Record Examination (GRE) is another standardized test commonly used for graduate admissions, similar to the GMAT. However, while the GMAT is primarily used for business school admissions, the GRE is accepted by a wide range of graduate and business programs worldwide.

Here are key features of the GRE:

  1. Sections:
    • Analytical Writing:
      • This section includes tasks that assess your ability to articulate complex ideas clearly and effectively. It consists of two tasks: “Analyse an Issue” and “Analyse an Argument.”
    • Verbal Reasoning:
      • This section assesses your ability to analyze and evaluate written material. It includes reading comprehension, text completion, and sentence equivalence questions.
    • Quantitative Reasoning:
      • This section measures your ability to understand, interpret, and analyze quantitative information. It includes multiple-choice questions as well as quantitative comparison questions.
  2. Scoring:
    • The GRE is scored on a scale of 130 to 170 for the Verbal and Quantitative sections, and 0 to 6 for the Analytical Writing section.
    • The Verbal and Quantitative sections are adaptive, meaning the difficulty of the second set of questions is determined by your performance on the first set.
  3. Test Format:
    • The GRE can be taken on a computer or on paper, depending on the test center. The computer-based test is the more common format.
    • The order of the sections in the computer-based test is typically Analytical Writing, Verbal Reasoning, and Quantitative Reasoning. However, the order of the Verbal and Quantitative sections may vary.
  4. Test Duration:
    • The total testing time for the GRE is around 3 hours and 45 minutes, including breaks.
  5. Validity:
    • GRE scores are generally valid for five years.
  6. Test Administration:
    • The GRE is administered by Educational Testing Service (ETS), a nonprofit organization.
  7. Purpose:
    • The GRE is used by a wide range of graduate and business programs for admissions decisions. It is not limited to a specific field of study and is accepted by programs in areas such as psychology, education, engineering, and various other disciplines.
  8. Subject Tests:
    • In addition to the General Test, there are GRE Subject Tests available in specific subject areas. These tests assess knowledge in particular fields such as Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Psychology, Mathematics, and Literature.

Preparing for the GRE typically involves a combination of familiarizing yourself with the test format, reviewing content areas, and practicing with official GRE test materials. Many test takers also use preparatory books, online resources, and may consider taking GRE preparation courses.

As with the GMAT, it’s important to check the specific requirements of the graduate programs to which you are applying, as different programs may prioritize different aspects of the GRE scores or have additional admissions criteria.
